Anique Godjo

I hold a Degree of Agricultural Engineer (Faculty of Agronomy, University of Parakou, Benin), a Master of Science in nematology from Ghent University (Belgium), and a PhD from Ghent University (2013-2018) in nematology. My thesis work focused on entomopathognic nematodes (EPNs) and their symbiotic bacteria to control fruit flies in mango cultivation in Benin.

After obtaining my doctoral degree, I joined my home university (University of Parakou) to pursue a research career in Benin. I work in the laboratoire de phytotechnie, d’amélioration et de protection des plantes (LaPAPP) as a Research Assistant in the department of crop protection at the Faculty of Agronomy. In that lab, I am involved in several research works related to the sustainable production of tropical crops, molecular biology, microbiology and the biological control of crop pests using EPNs or fungi.

Currently, I work as a researcher is a project dealing with the sweet potato breeding for resistance to Potyvirus in Benin. In addition to my research on sweet potato breeding for virus susceptibility, I am involved in several research programs in collaboration with the Laboratory of Diagnosis and Integrated Management of Plant Bio-Aggressors at the same University that deal with nematodes studies and biological control of insect pests. I also work as the project's principal investigator, ‘Entomopathogenic nematodes formulations for biological control of mango fruit fly soil stages’. I am also involved in a project to describe new mermithidae nematode samples collected in the maize field in northern Benin. My routine tasks include using microscopy for morphological analyses and molecular techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR, and qPCR.
