Open Slots (Modality A)

The applicants must align the scope of their research with the requirements of the short research stage (SRS) slots offered by the Flemish High Education and Scientific Institutions (HE&SIs) published on this page. The applicants fulfilling the selection criteria can apply to one of the provided slots to demonstrate how the SRS in the EU will impact their line of research in Africa, the mutual benefits arising from the collaboration, and the expected deliverables (via application form).

This is a competitive process by which the suitability of the candidates and the complementarity of their research in Africa vis-a-vis the SRS proposed will be evaluated. Hence, the applicants should not contact the promoters in the Flemish HE&SIs for the co-development of the proposals together. IPBO staff will screen applications to assess completeness. Conforming applications will pass to a 1st selection round in January.

For every SRS, we will select the top 5 candidates based on the selection criteria, the quality of the research proposal, the complementarity of their research line with the Flemish HE&SIs, and the program's potential impact in SSA, the feasibility of the action plan and its deliverables.  IPBO will share the top 5 applications with the Flemish HE&SIs for the joint identification of suitable candidates for the 2nd selection round, an online interview (February). Based on interview scores, the final selection committee will select the fellows by the beginning of March.

Fellowships' paperwork will start mid-March. During March and April, the selected fellows will consolidate the research plans with the Flemish HE&SIs.
