The Kringloop Labs Initiative

The Kringloops labs initiative

Breathes new life into secondhand laboratory equipment.

Aim of the Kringloop labs initiative

The Kringloop Labs Initiative draws inspiration from the circular economy concept to combat the deliberate short lifespan of laboratory equipment that is still in working condition. Through this initiative, we aim to breathe new life into laboratory equipment from institutions in Belgium, creating new research and educational opportunities in Africa.

Despite numerous initiatives to acquire materials for research partners in the Global South, the outcomes have often fallen short of expectations, with limited long-term impacts. In many cases, recipients were not adequately trained in using the equipment or were given equipment that was unsuitable for their needs. Therefore, our approach to setting up functional labs extends beyond providing equipment and laboratory infrastructure. It also involves an extensive training package for both research and education purposes.

We sincerely appreciate our patrons who have donated towards this cause.
